On May 3, 2022, in the Supreme Court of Nassau County, SPBMCC Partner Liza Milgrim secured a $900,000 settlement for a woman who slipped and fell in a supermarket.
58-Year-Old Woman Slips on Water in Supermarket
The plaintiff was walking down an aisle in the supermarket when she slipped and fell as a result of a water spill. The employees of the supermarket were aware of the water spill and placed a wet floor sign near the location. While they were retrieving the supplies to clean up the spill, the plaintiff slipped and fell.
The plaintiff suffered a fractured patella that was treated conservatively. Following the conservative treatment, the plaintiff developed back pain and was diagnosed with disc bulges and radiculopathy at L4-5 that necessitated a fusion at L4-5

SPBMCC Partner Liza Milgrim represented the plaintiff in this case and argued that the defendant was negligent in properly containing the spill and properly warning customers of the potential danger.. The plaintiff testified that she saw the wet floor sign before she slipped on the water, but the water that she slipped on extended beyond the sign. The case was brought to the Supreme Court in Nassau County and settled at a mediation for $900,000.
