Eleni Coffinas, Esq. Secures $4.65 Million Settlement for Medical Malpractice

A 36-year-old married woman tragically passed away, leaving behind her husband and five children, due to a delayed breast cancer diagnosis. In May 2017, while breastfeeding her fourth child, she noticed a lump in her left breast, an inverted nipple, and bloody drainage—all signs of potential breast cancer. She sought care at a hospital in Brooklyn, where a breast sonogram was interpreted as benign. The gynecologist and radiologist seen at the hospital did not recommend any follow up even though the plaintiff presented obvious signs of breast cancer.

After giving birth to her fifth child in April 2018, her symptoms worsened and by September 2018, her left breast became swollen, and her breast milk was discolored with a foul odor. In October, she visited the hospital after noticing skin discoloration resembling an orange peel—a known breast cancer symptom. Imaging revealed breast masses with potential liver metastasis.

By November 2018, she was diagnosed with Stage IV Breast Cancer with metastasis to her liver, spine, and bones. Despite starting chemotherapy later that month, the plaintiff passed away. Eleni Coffinas, Esq. secured a $4.65 million settlement to help provide for the plaintiff’s children and for the plaintiff’s pain and suffering.
