Craig M. Silverman, Counsel at Sullivan Papain Block McManus Coffinas & Cannavo, P.C. (Sullivan Papain) in New York City, was appointed to the leadership team representing Plaintiffs in the Exactech multi-district litigation (“MDL”) involving defective knee, hip, and ankle devices. The Order was entered last week by United States District Judge Nicholas Garaufis of the Eastern District of New York.
Silverman will serve on the Bellwether committee, responsible for analyzing and recommending representative plaintiff cases for bellwether trials, and will assist with plaintiffs’ discovery efforts. He brings years of experience litigating multi-plaintiff complex cases against prominent corporate defendants, including Johnson & Johnson and ExxonMobil.
Exactech has recalled approximately 200,000 implants since issuing its first product safety alert in June 2021. Its recalled products include Optetrak and Truliant knee implants, Connexion GXL, AcuMatch, MCS and Novation hip implants, and Vantage ankle implants. Plaintiffs allege injuries such as bone loss and osteolysis, often requiring a revision surgery to replace the defective devices.
“I am honored to be part of Plaintiffs’ Leadership in this important litigation, and as always, will strive to attain justice for those who were injured by Exactech’s defective devices.” Silverman said.
