Daily Harvest Meal Kits Leading to Gastrointestinal Pain and Hospitalizations

TikTok influencer Abby Silverman, a Sullivan Papain Block McManus Coffinas & Cannavo P.C. client, often receives packages from companies to review on social media. However, after consuming Daily Harvest’s French Lentil + Leek Crumbles, she says she developed extreme stomach and gastrointestinal pain leading to hospitalization. She is not alone. As multiple people across the country report similar experiences, SPBMCC partner Mark Apostolos is now investigating and evaluating all legal remedies.
Hundreds Report Gastrointestinal Illness Following Consumption of Daily Harvest Product
According to an article in the NY Daily News, certain products by New York-based Daily Harvest have led to hundreds of complaints of gastrointestinal illness.
The meal delivery company has issued a recall and estimates that from April 28 to June 17, 2022, the 28,000 units of its French Lentil + Leek Crumbles product were distributed to consumers in the continental United States through online sales and direct delivery, as well as through retail sales at the Daily Harvest store in Chicago, and a pop-up store in Los Angeles. If you received this item, you are advised to not consume it and immediately throw it away.
Daily Harvest also announced this week that it is working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, as well as other experts, to determine what is making people sick. However, despite multiple reports of gastrointestinal illness, with some consumers even claiming to have needed their gallbladders removed, it is still unclear exactly what is wrong with the product.
